1996 johnson heating

Hi new to this ,
i have a 1995 60hp johnson outboard , i recently had it at mechanics and New water pump installed, they also said compression are 130 on all 3 , they said its like new

Question i cant get my head around , they are suggesting that it is still running hot, why are they suggesting a new head gasket , dont understand why

Isnt head gasket in relation to compression?
 
The shop is not wrong in their suggestion.----A leaking head gasket can put too much pressure into the water jackets.----Then your water pump will have difficulty circulating water.-------Post the part # of the latest water pump kit that they installed.----There are updates to the cooling system !
 
I have a 93 model 40hp that I changed the thermostat in...My boat guy said just because my motor has a good water stream from the water pump doesnt mean the water is circulating in the head....
 
That is correct on many outboard motors the tell tale is an indicator for the water pump.------And that tell tale water does NOT go through the block at all.-------The tell tale does NOT indicate / show a blockage in the block.
