1996 Johnson 50 Ck Engine light

My original tach with OMC System Check died and I replaced it with a standard tach. I added to my console, LED lights for engine overheat and one to replace the Check Engine warning. Both of these lights were part of the original System check. Have the overheat light working perfect. Is there a check engine sensor on this engine that would go to ground if triggered? It originally had oil injection but that was removed by a mechanic years ago. Was hoping that ChatGPT might help but it’s running me in circles. I’m not even sure that a sensor even exists on this engine that would have triggered a Check Engine light on the original system check. Would anyone be able to shed some light? I’d be most grateful
 
You could have just added a 2" System Check Gauge for less than $50, but you're down this road now, so let's go with it.

I'm pretty sure the Check Engine circuit just goes to the vacuum sensor on the fuel rail to signal a fuel restriction. I assume it's a normally open circuit and closes the circuit to ground if a vacuum forms. I looked through the parts diagrams and I can't seem to find a vacuum gauge on your engine, but I know my '96 150 has one.
 
If i had been smart, I could have found a tach with system check, paid about $50 and hooked up just the overheat and eng check and I would be time and money ahead for sure. I'm sure you are correct about the fuel restriction - which I do not have. ChatGPT can sometimes be very helpful but in this case she really ran me down a rabbit hole. I do appreciate your insight

System Check tachometers are pricey for new ones, about $250. The individual 2" gauge is cheap. You might have been able to find a good used System Check tach for a reasonable price or just done the 2".

AI probably falls short on knowledge of old 2 strokes since you have to actually turn wrenches to make them work ;)
