1996 Johnson 150 will not power up

1996 150 would not start or ru

1996 150 would not start or run unless pumped primer bulb all the time. Replaced fuel pump will start great but idle is rough with some spitback when idling. When trying to throttle up will die. Can idle for 5 or six minutes and then can power up. After power up will run good. Motor sit for 2 or 3 months without running. Thanks for any help

Could be a few things. You need to do a compression test on each cylinder with a compression guage you can buy at an auto parts star. Also check spark with a spark tester. If those areas are eliminated as problems, , most likely a problem in the carburetors. When was the last time they were pulled and cleaned out and new kits installed?"

I bought the boat and motor a month or so ago and it had not been run in 3 months. So I don't know when they would have cleaned. I thank you for all your help
 
Check the fuel filter in the t

Check the fuel filter in the tank. Check for gunk in the tank caused by our new fuel with alcohol in it. I had similar problem. Pumped out all fuel and put it in my car 25% at a time - ran fine. Put new fuel in boat tank Cleaned out screen and tank- put in new fuel and it runs great after I got the old fuel out of the system. I always put and additive in fuel for long term storage even if I use it monthly.}
