Good afternoon,
I'll start by saying boats in general and working on outboards are pretty new to me.
Back story. I bought the boat in October and when the guy took I bought it from took me out on the water the boat appeared to run great, got up on plane and all seemed well. Now, the boat has sat from then until early March. I added new gas, new oil, and replaced the spark plugs and wires. I took my boat out a couple weeks ago for the first time and couldn't get it on plane. Noticed that it would not get up to RPM. There were no alarms for low oil or high temperature. Have done some reading and understand this could have been "slow mode". Seems that these safeties were more than likely removed or bypassed by the previous owner. I know that these should be functional and am working to get these right.
To the problem at hand that I've noticed. There was a substantial amount of leakage around the carburetor seals. So, I ordered carburetor rebuild kits. Once I received those I pulled the carbs and started to replace the parts. What I noticed was that the float chambers were severely warped. I ordered new float chambers and received those yestaerday. I started to install those onto the the carburetor body assembly with the new gaskets provided with the carb rebuild kit. Now I notice that the carb body assembly is also warped. Not only where the float chamber seals to the body but also on the cover plate side. I'm not interested in sanding down the surfaces as I just would not feel comfortable doing so. I will be ordering new carb body assemblies.
My question is, why would this happen to begin with? If I install the new carb body assemblies, float chambers, with the carb rebuild kits, I just want to be sure this doesn't happen again.
I did do a compression and spark test. All four cylinders ranged from 125 to 130 and spark was great on all four.
Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Daniel.
