"I hope someone can give me some good advice.

I have been having issues with my motor lately and I'm crazed and confussed by it.

I took it to a local marine shop and they said it was most likely the ignition coil which I replaced. Now $48.00 later, it is running no better.

This started 3 weeks ago. I was running down the lake and it started to act like it was out of gas. The RPM's started to drop and the engine would die. I'd wait 15 minutes, get it going again and after 10-15 minutes of running fine, it would again die.

Now it will run continuously but only at 2,000 rpm and will not get up on plane. It is also burning more gas. Now I'm being told power-pack issue in one ear and carburator issue in other.

Any thoughts?"

"Sorry; perhaps I was not as clear as I should be.

I bought the ignition coil and had a friend put it in as they (marine shop indicated it was the most likely culprit). I also replaced both spark plugs and no, it was not professionally done at shop but the mechanic and my friend know each other well and the mechanic told my friend what to do to replace ignition switch.

No water in fuel that is visible and does not feel like it is overheating based on fly wheel.

When you say it may be time; do you mean have it professionally tuned?"

"i had a problem like this years ago, on a 48. it turned out to be the stator getting hot over a period of time and in turn would shut down.

Now the beautiful part of this is that you can find a 40 48 or 50 omc for parts just about anywhere for a few hundred bucks"
