Hello, I have been searching and reading much here, plenty of help, so I have a question. I just bought a 96 88hp Evinrude and have been running it some on muffs. The starboard cylinder bank was very hot to the touch whereas the port side was very cool. I pulled the thermostats and both appeared to be stuck in the open position. Many years ago I helped replace the water diverters on a 90hp, so I'm aware of their purpose. My question is- can their operation be checked by pulling the two hoses off the thermostat housing and running the motor briefly to compare the amount of water coming out of the hose openings? The ones I helped replace were swollen and were restricting the water flowing through the cylinder passages. I'm wondering if the starboard side will have much less water coming out. thanks
