1996, 50 HP powerpack works only when hot

Recently I found my powerpack on my 1996 50 HP evinrude motor works only when its hot outside. I confirm this one cold morning it didn't want to start so I put a hair dryer just on the powerpack and it started. I ordered the powerpack, but shipping is going wrong everywhere because of COVID 19. Been waiting for more then 3 weeks and my fishing trip is next week. So I'm checking to temporay fix it. Can the fact that the powerpack works only when hot means there is condense in it so possiby it's crack. Do you think if I just add a layer of high temperature époxy will help?
 
Electrical items that only work when hot make me think of a bad (cracked) solder joint inside the box. If the powerpack can be taken apart, that is not epoxied together, and you feel up to it or have a friend that is, take the cover off and remove the circuit board to see if there is any solder joints that you see anything that even remotely looks like a crack. They are often very hard to see (as in need a magnifier to see) but likely there. A hairdryer is a big heat source but it is possible that you might heat only one section at a time to get the general area where the problem is.

That sounds plausible. Yesterday I remove the powerpack, checked for surface cracks, it’s a plastic box filled with epoxy, I filled the cracks with epoxy and the result was negative. I still need to put the hairdryer. I think I will wait to get the new part and then I will open up the old one to see if there is a bad solder.

if your going to try to fix it don't put any more sealer or whatever on it, it would be just that much harder to take it apart and fix it.
 
Btw, if you are worried about it starting during your fishing trip (MacGyver fix)see if you can find one of those chemical hand warmers folks use in the winter, it might get you out of a jam.
 
Those powerpacks are almost cheaper than 1 HR of labour at many shops.----Putting a new one on takes but minutes at home.-----Best option out there !
 
Waiting since June 2 ?-----You should be able to get that in 3 or 4 days.-------Know where to get used ones in Canada.
