"I have a 90hp Johnson that will not plane out the boat has 15 prop tried different one. Problem is motor will not get up to WOT RPM range checked all spark good compression 120 all around while checking everything found 2 gaskets leaking gas repaired those and than found, Maybe the complete cause? Not sure until I get it all back together. (This Motor had been Rebuilt 3 years ago but never used the boat) While investigating the fuel leak I saw Smoke puff out from between the block seam. one side of this block did not have any sealer installed when rebuilt? I believe this could be the cause of the power lose under a load. Please let me know if you think it might be something else? I will post results as soon as I get this back together."

"You're saying that the engine has sat for three years without being run. The carburetors are fouled due to sitting for thata length of time, AND the engine was obviously not rebuilt properly if the crankcase halves are leaking.

Both areas will require reworking before that engine will run properly.

Thousands of parts in my remaining stock. Not able to list them all. Let me know what you need and I'll look it up for you. Visit my eBay store at:

Joe the Engine was service last year that was when I discovered the Power issue but was gone for 6 months and just now got back to working the issue. both sides on the crankkcase were not leaking just the one they neglected to put sealer on the other side was fine. I am thinking that when I get this split cleaned and resealed I should be good. just wanted to post here for more info and possible help someone else look in other places when they have a simlar issue. Thanks Joe. should I have any other concerns afterwards?

Just split the engine and chec

Just split the engine and checked everything rings looked fine rods tight no leaks on top or bottom crank seals cleaned block halfs resealed them put all back together. run on muffs fine put back in water will not plane without 200+ Lbs in the front. than runs fine until you slow down still running the 15 prop but I feel the problem still lies in the motor somewhere. will post back more results when finished. Marine Mechanic said it would cost over 800 to rebuild this motor. I am not sure the motor needs rebuilt compression is at 120 for all 4 cylinders that was done warm and with throttle in neutral position? I think it might be control box or something to do with the Carbs which were rebuilt last year!

"If the compression is okay &#

"If the compression is okay (120 is fine), and you have spark on all cylinders that will jump a 7/16" gap with the spark plugs removed, then your explanation would indicate that the carburetors are fouled somewhat (a common problem). Remove and clean them. Be sure to manually clean the four (4) high speed jets located in the bottom center portion of the float chambers."
