1995 Johnson 9.9 shifting issue

Good day all. Have a '95 Johnson 9.9 with some issues. Reverse works fine, but when you shift to neutral, it's actually forward gear, and won't shift into forward position. So basically I have no neutral right now. Any ideas? Thanks

Yes it was, put in new water pump

Did you line up the notch in the shift rod BEFORE you but the bolt in ?

We've looked at it, not sure which bolt you are speaking of. There are several bolts that secure the water pump. Thanks, happy Thanksgiving!

???-No model # posted, I assumed 2 stroke.------The shift rod connector on a 2 stroke model ?-----A 4 stroke is different.---.----One bolt had to be taken out to remove lower unit.---The notch in the shift rod MUST be lined up before the bolt is put in on assembly on the 2 stroke.----Good luck with it.-----Damage to gears and clutch dog can be big $$$ repairs.

I am guessing yours is one of those 4 strokes.----If so , did somebody turn the shift rod ??

It's a 95 Johnson 9.9 2 stroke. Will take foot off again and line things up before putting bolt back in. Thanks, will let u know, hopefully that does it. This all just began after replacing water pump
