1995 Johnson 225 Ocean Runner Starts; wont idle

Its 1995 Johnson225 OceanRunner. Starts up after pressing the bulb few times and then giving ita choke 2 to 3 times. But it wont idle. I have to keep pressing choke every few seconds to keep it running. When I press throttle it speeds up and then quickly starves for fuel and dies. Suspecting there is an issue with the VRO or the carbs i got them cleaned. VRO was ok. The mechanic said the carbs were clean too. Everything else seems fine. Somethign still is not good. I even disconnected the fuel line and put in the 5 gallon gas tank on deck. Still the engine starves and only runs on choke every few seconds...

Any ideas? thanks for your help...

i would look at the link and sync procedures in the factory manual,...all the throttle rollers are ok,..not missing the outside part?.....u r running lean,....either from an air leak,..or carb prob's...if u have adj low spd jets,i would ck into enrichen those a little as well, and see if that helps...ur prob is the sam,......even AFTER WARMED UP?

This sounds like the exact same problem I have on my 1995 Johnson 130 looper, the only way I can keep my engine alive is to keeping blipping the choke every few seconds. I think that the previous owner of my engine has played with the timing settings, I have bought a Timing gun today and tomorrow will attempt to time my engine and will let you know If It cures it.

Regards

Jonathon
