Hello! I am confused and frustrated with my motor. 1995 Johnson 150 Ocean Runner SLEOM. It won't start. The long history is that 4 years ago I was at the lake and it was running great. I pulled up to some friends and shut it off for about 30 minutes while we swam around. Got back in and it barely would start and I had trouble getting it to shore under it's own power. It would start only at WOT and barely keep going for 15 sec. or so. It would never get RPMs up much at all even WOT. then it would die. I checked spark on the lake, fuel as much as I could and towed it to the trailer. Frustrated I put it up. Every year I get it out to fix it and would work on checking things and replacing things and end up quiting in frustration because nothing seems to change with it. NO ALARMS went off ever.
I have replaced:
Fuel pump
Optical stator
coils
powerpack
spark plugs
rebuilt the electric choke( solenoid)
Rebuilt all 6 carbs (they didn't look bad at all upon disassembly)
Cleaned out all fuel and oil hoses
removed emptied and cleaned fuel tank and reinstalled with new fuel line to engine.
New fresh fuel.
checked and tightened all hose connections with hose clamps
removed cleaned and resealed vapor pump with new seals.
Replaced Starter, cleaned and relubed bendix gear
Cleaned battery terminals&
Charged battery
Compression is between 92 and 102 on all six cylinders
Spark looks good
Seems like shes' getting fuel.
Symptoms are that she seems to fire once in a 2-3 second start attempt then nothing.
Regardless of choke or not.
Puzzled as to why it was running so good and then suddenly wouldn't and also why nothing I've done seems to matter.
Nearest Marine Mechanic is 200 miles away.
Please chime in with ideas!
Thanks
Jim
