1995 johnson 115hp help with shift rod

I just replaced the waterpump and I need to reinsert the shaft, shift rod back into the upper until. My shiftrod got turned and I don't know where it needs to be. The prop won't engage so I can rotate the drive shaft.

hard to turn the flywheel on those.---Have you set the shift rod height ?

I don't know what height to set the shift rod.

I didn't know i could just look that up. I did and i found 21.25in. Is that from the top edge of the case to the center of the hole?

When I get it adjusted to 21.25 what next? What gear will it be in? When I removed the lower it was in reverse gear.

When setting shift rod height the gearcase must be in neutral.

Thank you for your help. I got er all done. Had to reset the height and wrestle with the shift rod connector to go back on. (I found out after I disconnected it there was an easy way to disconnect the shift rod.)
Gonna pressure check the bottom then start it up. I had a problem with the pulse line disconnecting . Took me a while to findithat being the problem. I thought i was sucking air somewhere in the fuel supply lines. I may just replace the entire VRO pump and mix myself. I don't trust the VRO. I already ordered its replacement.
