Have a 1995 Evinrude 48 on 1995 Manitou pontoon. Started fine about 3 weeks ago but went to start over the weekend and it turned over but would not fire. Fuel, no spark. I checked to make sure the lanyard was in place and it was. I then pulled the lanyard disconnect switch and removed the 2 wires that could be pulled apart. I think the other wires went to the ignition switch. When the wires weren't connected the motor would start. If I reconnect the wires the motor stops. If I just connect the 2 wires without the switch the motor dies.
Also, one time I did not leave the wires connected but left the key in the on position and the motor started on its own.
Is the safety lanyard switch bad or do I have another problem?
