I am finally going to install a water separator on my 1995 175hp Evinrude. My question is what fuel flow rate do I need for my motor? I see most separators come in 30, 60 and 90 gph. Is it worth getting one with a clear bowl on the bottom?

Also what is a good brand to get. I read where the Moeller leaks and sucks air around the clear bowl. Racor is what most recommend but is a little higher, just don't know which one to get?

Thanks,
Robert

I run an old school separator on my 96 150 rude, looks like an oil filter on a car. I have thought about getting one like your talking about, but you have to think of space. Like, wherever you mount it, you need to be able to actually see the bottom of the bowl on the filter in order for it to serve it's purpose. I can not mount mine anywhere that I could do that, so I stuck with the older style. Also, it is much, much cheaper to run. A new filter for my setup costs around 6 - 8 bucks depending on where you buy it. The ones that you specify are much more. As well as from time to time, you will have to replace the o rings in it too as they rot.

I would suggest go big or go home, spend the money & get the best one for your buck. Buying the cheaper thing doesn't always payoff, at least not in my experience! You get what you pay for....
