1995 Evinrude 150hp outboard intermittent no start

My 1995 Evinrude 150hp outboard intermittently will not start. During this condition, it turns over properly, but will not fire. If I have someone shaking the motor as I turn the key, it will trigger a start almost immediately. Nothing else seems to work. Once started, the motor runs fine. I checked the plugs and they are fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rolf

I thought that was curious, but when applied to humans.....it sometimes works, at least when my wife smacks me! You must have a bad wire that is interrupting the spark. Check closely all your connections and the condition of wires that have pertinence to kill switch. Usually black/yellow color.

Thanks for the quick response. I will be back up there next weekend and that’s the first thing I’ll look for. I will post here when I check it out. If I can’t find anything with the wiring, is there a way to bypass the kill switch to confirm it’s in that circuit?

Just try to start after you have disconnected that black/yellow wire from the power pack terminal. To kill the motor, you will have to reconnect it. This wire when shorted to ground will stop the spark to the plugs by shutting down the power pack. Of course, be careful of the moving parts.
