"I am getting the no oil alarm

"I am getting the no oil alarm on my 150 evinrude. It is a series of intermittent beeps every second or two. My motor will not run past idle when the alarm goes off. Is this normal or did i damage my engine? If I did not damage my engine, will a new vro pump solve my problem or should i look at something else first?"

"Start by adding oil in the fu

"Start by adding oil in the fuel for the time being!
Then squeeze the bulb on the oil tank HARD. Does the alarm go away?
If it does, check for air leaks in the hose/connections from the VRO to the tank.
If You do not find any, take a clear plastic hose and connect to the oil-inlet on the VRO, make it like a big U. Take a marker pen and make a level mark. Then fill the hose with TCW3, start the engine. At idle the VRO pump will make a click about every 20 sec. At the same time You should see the oil level going down in the hose from the mark. If it does, the VRO is probably OK. If alarm still sounds and VRO is technically working, the electronic might be defective. Officially then the VRO has to be changed, but???"

"Thanks Mort. I will definitel

"Thanks Mort. I will definitely check for leaks in the line. I think since the motor is 14 years old, I am going to replace the vro anyway. I just bought the boat and paid a very low price. Even though I don't have money to blow, I think that would be a very good part to replace. Would this cause my engine to not run past idle, or do I have more problems?"

"If the No Coil alarm goes off

"If the No Coil alarm goes off, the SLOW should kick in and limit the rpm to about max 2500. To de-activate the SLOW, engine must be stopped and re-started, even if fault is cleared and alarm off."
