" Without the engine cover on,

" Without the engine cover on, the engine runs great, albeit loud. When I put the engine cover on, it will sometimes not run on all cylinders, I think the engine cover hits the spark plug wires and damages them. Any suggestions to keep this from happening? Or, in case I'm crazy, what else could be causing this problem? "

" Exhaust could be in the cover from somewhere,the cover could be pinching a rubber line or a spark plug wire,or as I have found out you could have exhaust sucking up the air intake in which case it will run better when on the lake .I just went through the same problem and believe I fixed it by repairing a stripped bolt that holds on a cover that is removed to access the shifter linkage ,and this plate being loose was letting exhaustinto my cover area.At least I hope it fixed it as I am leaving for the lake now.One other thing to check is engine vacuum ,due to leaking combustion chambers .Good luck I am no mechanic ,just telling you what I have found to try to correct he same problem.Mike "
