"Engine ran fine then lost spa

"Engine ran fine then lost spark, removed cover - voltage regulator was burned. Stator had to be replaced as well. Heard there was a recall on this but wasn't contacted by Brunswick Marine. Was there a recall? Did this happen to anyone else?"

"Generally two kinds of recall

"Generally two kinds of recalls -

one because of a major safety issue (early Ficht motors would catch fire and blow up - government made them notifiy owners)

and the second type (normally simply covered by a "Service Bulletin" to the dealers) - "If you bring it in due to failure, Merc will fix it for nothing - or, if you do it yourself and then later find out about the "program" within the specified time frame, they will give you back what you paid for parts (if you have receipts) - but you aren't notified "up front" by Merc - if you bought from a reputable dealer, they should have let you know, and probably would have if you used their services for regular maintenance.

But "IF" the part lasted however long the program was in effect, then their position is "you got a part that WASN'T defective in the first place" - so it's just normal wear/tear failure....

And really, if it lasted 14 years, that sounds to be "free of factory defect" (and no I'm not an autorized Merc Tech or Dealer)..."
