"Hi,

I have a 19 Foot '95 4 Winns that wont go above 3000 rpm when it is under load. It is slow coming out of the water. In neutral the rpms will come up beyond three, but not when it is under load.

I thought it might have a speed prop on it, but it is not getting above 30 to 35 mph with just me in the boat and that seems awfully slow for a V8. (It has the 2bbl holley carb.)

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

"I'm having a similar problem with my VP 5.0GL. The engine model year is a 2000 and I discovered that the previous owner never had any maintenance performed, other than changing fluids. Just for the sake of maintenance, I've done the following things:

-New spark plugs
-New fuel/water separator
-Two tanks of fuel system cleaner
-Cleaned the flame arrestor
-New cap and rotor
-One can of carb cleaner

In my case, the can of carb cleaner was the most sucessful in restoring some of my lost power. My next plan is to rebuild the carb. My advice is to pick up a $3 can of carb cleaner and try it out."
