1995 150hp carbs leak beep beep

"Ive got a 95 150 johnson carb

"Ive got a 95 150 johnson carbed motor,starts fine,runs good till 4000.Then the warning sounds intrmittently if you increase throttle or stay at 4000.Also the starboard bank of carbs are overflowing just as if the floats are stuck,seems strange that these three are bad (leaking) and the port-side are dry? thanx Tom"

"Tom, I do not know the pattern of the warning horn. That motor should have alarms for low oil, no oil, overheat and no gasoline. The no gasoline alarm is set off by a vacuum switch at the VRO Pump. At higher RPM (say 4000), if the fuel supply is restricted, the alarm could sound.

OK - I recommend you check all six carbs to see that they are clean, the floats are adjusted correctly, and the inlet needles are good."

"Many boaters have a habit of storing their engine for some time in a tilted position with the engine turned to one side. This can result in having the carburetors foul on one side only.

1 - A steady constant beep = Overheating - The V/6 engines, possibly some others, have a fuel restriction warning which is also a steady constant beep.

2 - A beep every 20 or 40 seconds = oil level has dropped to 1/4 tank. (Late model engine = Every 40 seconds)

3 - A beep every other second = VRO failure, air leak in oil line, oil restriction, (anything that would result in a lack of oil being supplied to the engine).

NOTE - If the warning horn is the black plastic (overpriced) three wire type horn, the warning horn should beep once when the ignition key is turned to the ON position. If it does not, it is either faulty or someone has disconnected it (a stupid move!). At any rate, if it does not beep which indicates that the horn is non functional, find out why and do not run the engine until the problem is corrected."
