1994 Johnson 48 spl low end chatter

I have a 94 48 spl model # J4

I have a 94 48 spl model # J48esler That I just recently put on a 15 ft Riviara. I rebuilt the carbs and seems to idle low But my question is when I shift into gear I hear a little chatter then feel a a few bumps but when throttled up it seems to be ok. I have never had a johnson so i dont know if this is normal. Also Spitting good water at low speed but when cranked up it looks like mist. I plan on changing Impeller should I change pump as well? comp. is 125psi on both cylinders.

How do I remove lower end to replace water pump,
I believe I put shifter forward, do I need to disconnect
the shifter rod? and if so, were can it be found?"

The shifter rod disconnects up under the carbs, its a tight squeeze to see it.

Don't forget the hidden bolts under the trim-tab on the bottom end.

A manual will save you from making expensive mistakes :)"
