well let me give history. bought boat and motor april 2012, restored boat completely. nothing on motor except for an burnt out overheat alarm wired to ignition switch. first two times out on lake motor ran ok. would start and run in neutral . at first it would stall when putting in gear. but the more i used it the better it got to were it would't stall at all.on the third time out i ran it a lot longer on the water.while running on the water i tried to get a little more throttle by adjusting linkage thumb screw on cable hook up. thats when overheat alarm sounded and engine started running real ruff bucking and spitting but would idles fine on low speed. shut motor off and let cool down. started right back up but then started to over heat again after about 5 minutes.waited until the next day pulled boat off lake and removed the t-stat. probleam was no t-stat just outter mental cover and heavy retainer spring. then pulled head and replaced the head gasket. note old gasket was ok. then pulled the exhust cover and found that the outer gasket was home made and was covering three of the four water ports.the only won that was't covered was the one that allows water out of side nipple and then water tube. replaced inner and outer gaskets. thats when the new probleam stated. now engine will not stay running. also will not even start unless i choke each and every time. i also noticed that the fuel bulb does't stay hard. i noticed the retainer and linkage arm was loose not allowing the cam to line back up to notches. so replaced retainer and leakage ring also noticed broken wire on battery charger when the fly wheel was pulled. also changed all the elec. items under flywheel ie stator/sensor/coil&lam charge ect also an missing bolt on cam roller, note also replaced ignition switch. after doing all this still have to choke each time will not stay running.pulled the plugs that i also just replaced and are really carboned up and seem wet from fuel note did compression test upper 130/lower 131. all help will be greatly recieved. oh yea replaced the fuel bulb also.
