this boat is new to me. previous owner never took it over 4000 rpm. bought it on the basis he said it would not exceed 4500 rpm/30. paid accordingly. i am about to rebuild carbs but wanted a second opinion.
compression yesterday is 110-110-115-110-110-105
the boat/motor/prop should do about 5500/40+. prop is oem ss 15x17. gas is year old premium stabilized with k100. bottom is old paint.
it will not go over 4900rpm/34mph and last inch of throttle travel does nothing. but when i run it with the silencer box removed it turns 5600/37 mph. the throttle also stays live to the end of the travel.
small amount of green goop in bottom of silencer box and a tiny dusting of green goop in cowl tray after running with box removed. cannot see any particular carb leaking. looks to be synched but have not done one.
stalls out going into reverse and idle is not great.
i pulled each plug in turn and ran it. #5 missing seems to lose less rpms so is suspect. i had previously noted the plug lead seemed bad so replaced. this gained 100rpm and 1 mph.
