1994 E112TSLERS Evinrude shift rod disconnection

How do you disconnect the shift rod on 1994 112 Evinrude to remove the gearcase to replace the water pump impeller? This is the original impeller and I have not had any problems; but due to age I thought it would be a good Idea to replace it. I have done this on many other older outboards and smaller newer models; but I have no idea where the shift rod hooks up to the shift on this one. Thanks for any help

you disconnect on the port side under the bottom carb, most likely you will need a flash light to see it for the first time, follow the shift rod from the lower unit, into the lower cowling you will see it under the carb.

also forget, when you remove the lower unit do not turn the shift rod around, or let anyone play with it, turning it around is how you adjust the height of the rod, so by turning it you will make it shorter or longer and have problems when putting it back on.
