"1994 40hp evinrude tiller, when you push the starter button, you hear the starter solenoide clicking but the starter motor wont start. Then after trying, a few more times the starter motor starts, but wont hold. Any suggestions?"

Begin by checking that your battery is good and charged.

Check all connections are clean and tight. Including the negative.

Very large proportion of starting problems are due to bad connections

Replace the solenoid as they build up with vertigrease on the contacts inside the unit making it very unreliable
