After replacing the water pump impeller it will not pick up water. It's the first time I have attempted this. All I replaced was the impeller. Everything seemed to go back together correctly. So what did I screw up?

When you installed the impeller did you turn the driveshaft clockwise? If you got the flippers backwards it wont pump.

Yes I did.

You might want to pull the LU off again (ugh!) and bucket test it. Spin the driveshaft with a drill and look for water shooting up. If no, then start investigating.

Was it pumping before the change out ?-------Made sure the key is driving the impeller ?

Did you make sure the water tube went into the impeller housing when you slid the lower unit back on. It doesn't always fit together on its own. By the way that motor is awesome! One of the best Mercury ever made in my opinion.
