I have a 350 Chevy that started bogging down and sputtering if I went halfway to full throttle. I was pulling the kids on the tube yesterday and it started to sputter so I brought it back to neutral. Put it into gear and limped back to shore. Took it for a test run today. Everything was fine putting it into gear reverse and forward. Go to give it gas and it starts to sputter and jerk/bog. Again bring it back to neutral everything seems find. Put it into gear and coast back to shore. What could the problem be??

It sounds like it is fuel starved. Changed filters lately? Fuel pump dying?

I replaced the fuel/water separator filter about 3 months ago. I also cleaned out the screen filter going to the carburetor then although it looked perfect. I just added fuel and stabilizer to it and am going to try and run it tomorrow. Thanks for responding so quickly!!

Make sure the carb secondaries are opening up if it's a 4 BBL. Clean the flame arrestor an chk for it binding on the carb...saw someone bent the arrestor with a big foot.

I put it in the water this morning after filling it up and adding stabilizer and carb cleaner additives. Put it in gear and eased up the throttle. It started to bog again a little. I brought the throttle back and tried again. It improved a little and I was able to hold about 3/4 open. After the third time, I was able to get full throttle. But now it bogs in the turns with a little pffft backfire every once and a while. Straightaways it is fine. Does that sound like a firing issue?? Spark plug or rotor maybe??

It sounds fuel starved...pffft backfire can come from too lean mixture...dirt in the carb jets...perhaps it's time to take it apart and give it a good cleaning and adjustments.

I had the same problem with my 86 sundancer with a 350 4bbl last week. Fuel starvation over 1500-2000 rpm. i changed the water separator and cleaned the screen in the carb. Both were dirty. I change the rubber supply lines to the water separator as they were dry cracked but the engine was still acting up, but I think I may have found the problem yesterday. The anti-siphon valve( like a check valve) at the top of the tank feeding my fuel line , was stuck and would only open partly. The ball and spring were sticking and not letting much of fuel through. A little wd-40 and the valve was working like a charm . I threw in a can of sea foam and some fuel and the boat is now back to normal. I just got back from on the water and ran beautiful all day. I hope this helps.
