Hello All,

I am new to the forum, have used it for research but never posted so please bare with me.

Okay to give yall some history last year i rebuilt my 225 Vindicator, 40+ or - hours later the pistons looked like they had 4000+ hrs on them and the motor performance went away as it turned out the VRO pump was working off and on. Prior to the first rebuild all warning horns and VRO checked out. But that was short lived. Following the first rebuild the motor ran like a top, smooth easy to start, but the performance went away. I checked the compression to find low compression on the #1 cylinder. Long story short I ended up having to rebuild the motor again early this year. Since the this rebuild. I have had a gremlin that i need some help diagnosing. The #1 cylinder seems to be starving for fuel at idle, if you hit the choke the cylinder seems to pick up. I have cleaned the carb and reinstalled, also i have chaged the carb with another on the motor. The recirculating system has been checked. The reed blocks have been checked and appear to be fine. All new gaskets have been installed during both overhauls. I haved checked and rechecked and rechecked again. I have had the carbs off three times all are fine, I have replaced the fuel lines. As stated before it is only a problem when at idle. The motor runs great running across the lake and immediately after coming off of plane. Then is seems to drop a cylinder, i can feel it running rough. If I choke it the motor runs smooth till it starts to flood the other cylinders. No problem at all following the first since the second rebuild not so much.

If any one has any suggestions please feel free to shoot! PLEASE HELP I'M AT THE END OF MY ROPE!!!

A complete carb job includes the cleaning of the throttle plates. There are very small holes in the TP that open up into the venturi bore right at the butterfly.
I bet you did not clean the throttle plates....very few people do....
Look on the side of the throttle plate. You will have a metal plate held on with 4 screws OR a round plug a bit smaller than a dime. Gotta clean behind there.

Thank you for the input. I have flow checked the ports that you referred to with a parts cleaner spray all seemed to be fine. I guess that i will have to completely disassemble the them to make sure that there is noting that is blocking the venturi ports. I have become very efficient in the removal and replace ment of ny carbs so really not that big of a job to me anymore. Thanks, tmayes

Any ideas if that doesn't fix the problem

Thank you for the input. I checked the carbs when it first became a problem. I have replaced the carb gaskets X 3 with no improvement. Checked the reed block gaskets and replaced them x 2 just to make sure that it wasn't teh problem with no improvement. Guess the next step is disassembly of the TP. Thanks tmayes

Who did the rebuild ?------Why did it need a rebuild the first time it was done ?---------Was there any attention paid to the crankshaft sealing rings ?------------How carefully were the crankcase mating surfaces prepared for final assembly ?----What sealer and how much was used on assembly of the crankcase ?
