1994 175 fast strike shift rod

Hi, I just changed the water pump in my motor and in my ignorance, did not check the the bend of the shift rod needs to face when re- installing lower unit. Any one help please. thanks

The top of the shift rod should 'face' forward. There shouldn't have been any need to alter the shift rod unless you put new seals on while the LU was lowered.....or you accidentally turned the rod while wrangling the LU. Don't worry, it happens.

I think your '94 175 is about identical to my '96 150. If so, the distance from the hole in the rod to the mating surface of the LU should be exactly 21 1/4".

Thank you. I finally got it back on and had the rod facing forward, so it should be good. I going to start it tomorrow and see whats next! Thanks again
Did you verify shift rod height before you put it back together? This is a very important step.

I had all kinds of problems with forward gear slipping until I finally determined my LU had been replaced and the shift rod was too long. Once I installed the correct shift rod and set the height everything has been perfect.
