1993 tracker pro17 with 40hp johnson VRO question..

Hi guys ,finally removed vro oil tank ,hose and wiring from boat.Im still using the VRO pump for a fuel pump, does any body have an idea how long the pump will last after removing the oil too it???? Did run boat yesterday and it ran very good with 50 to 1 mix, not much smoke at all...

BTW the reason for removal was something in oil tank was setting the alarm off so I was running with wiring unhooked...The vro was working,but was feeling very uneasy with wiring unhooked also I dont mind to mix...

It doesn't need an oil supply to function as a fuel pump. As to how long the fuel pump will last, I can't say for sure, but one thing about a fuel pump, when it goes bad, you can USUALLY get home on the squeeze bulb.

If you're terribly nervous about this pump you can install a fuel-only pump in place of the VRO. The 48SPL engine was nearly identical to your 40HP and the pump off that engine will work just fine.
