"I have a '93 40 HP Mariner outboard with new sparks, carbs adjusted by mechanic, and brand-new gasoline. Runs great, but problem is when I bring it back to the marina and am idling in gear through the no wake zone, it will bog down and die.

It will restart, but most of the time I have to lift the fast-idle lever and choke it to start it again.

It was doing this before I took it to the shop and it is still doing it afterward after mechanic adjusted carbs and cleaned the still new plugs. What can I look at next?"

Time to clean the carb(s) - sounds like either a clog developing in the low speed jet or a sticky float valve.

Having to adjust a carb is the first sign of a future problem. They don't go out of adjustment on their own.

Readjusting is a temporary fix for a proper cleaning at a later time...

Try pumping up the bulb on the fuel line (or pumping it when it's having trouble either starting or idling) - if that helps the fuel pump may need servicing (usually a new diaphram).
