i have a 1993 johnson tj60tletd that is not firing. could it be a bad control module? i have checked all fuses none blown. is there any way to test the module?

Re: 1993 johnson 60 not firing

How / when did this happen ---------------Just bought the motor ??--------------------Kill switch on the control box looked at ??

Re: 1993 johnson 60 not firing

thanks alot for the reply. it ran good last year and has been sitting for the past 7months. tried to take it out a couple weeks ago and it wouldnt start. yesterday i took the control module off and went through the wiring harness and checked all the plugs and when i put everything back together i spun it over and it was firing great. put the plugs back in and tried to start it and once again no fire and still no fire. the control box is a single lever brp with the choke and kill swithch in the same spot around the key swithch. im not sure which wires are the kill switch. im assuming the kill switch when held in by retainer should be flush with the key switch housing and the remaining travel inward is for the choke.

You are saying that you have good spark with the plugs out ?????---------------With the plugs in it has no spark ???----------------that may mean that you have a weak battery or a problem with the starter motor.--------------If these motors do not crank fast enuff you will not have spark !!-----------try a known good battery or check starter and the brushes in the starter.---------------------These starter motors will not tolerate cranking for long periods of time-------------THEY BURN OUT QUICKLY !!

Re: 1993 johnson 60 not firing

In agreement with Racerone...... the engine must crank over at least 300 rpms in order for the stator to energize the powerpack. Temporarily run known good jumper cables directly to the electric starter (using a good fully charged top notch battery). If this results in a higher cranking rpm, remove & clean all cables and wires associated with the starter, including the battery terminals, solenoid, ground cable at the powerhead (all associated cables). Also be sure to thoroughly clean the components that the cables/wires attached to.

A loose or tight but dirty cable connection results in a voltage drop = slow cranking engine = weak, erratic, or no ignition.
