Okay let me first preface this

Okay let me first preface this question with...I know NOTHING about boat motors. I'm trying to get information to help my husband figure out what's going on with our boat. So talk to me like I'm a 6 year old. We took our boat to the shop to have the trim motor replaced and the bilge pumps checked out. Motor ran fine. We get it home and prepare to take it out....motor won't start. Usually after pumping the gas ball a few times and then trying to start it we'll get one "putt" out of it and the next time we turn the key it starts. Now we get "putts" but nothing else. Any ideas what the boat place may have adjusted that could cause this? They weren't asked to do ANY work on the motor...only the trim and the bilge pumps. Please help before he pushes the boat off into the bayou!!

"make sure the kill sw,is conn

"make sure the kill sw,is connected properly.did it run ok,before the shop trip?..or did it run ok,9 mos ago?"

Yes it ran fine before the tri

Yes it ran fine before the trip to the shop and has been running fine for the past 4 years. We ran it a few days before taking it to the shop. The only problem we had was the trim quit working so we were having to lift the motor by hand when taking it out of the water. The kill switch is connected.

"if he has a way to ck the spa

"if he has a way to ck the spark, thats where i'd go next,...i would also ck ur fuel for wtr..while the eng cover is off, look for any wires that may have been inadvertantly, disconnected."

"Okay...thank you!! I looked

"Okay...thank you!! I looked up the gap for the plugs....looks like .030....is that correct?

Also...most gas stations in this area run 10% ethanol....what effect might that have on the motor?

I'll post again once we've checked the plugs, fuel and wires. Hopefully with good news. We have been borrowing trucks to pull this boat for the past 3 years because our old truck just wouldn't cooperate. We just traded for a new one with the cash for clunkers deal last week. Now we have a truck to pull the boat...and the boat takes a nose dive! He's a little frustrated to say the least. Thanks for the help!"

"the gap is correct,ethanol fu

"the gap is correct, ethanol fuel absorbs wtr more rapidly than reg gas...i doubt its anything serious as it ran fine before the shop trip."

"Okay we've got her runnin

"Okay we've got her running! No water in the fuel, all the wires looked good but a few of the plugs were gapped to narrow. Regapped those and at first it still wouldn't start. Adjusted what we think was the manual choke and it fired right up and ran like a top. I guess the mechanic messed with the choke for some reason and monkeyed up the works. Thanks again for your help! You saved the boat from being pushed off into the bayou! Redfish here we come!"
