"On a 1993 evinrude 40 , is water supposed to come out of the hole where the shift rod goes down into the lower unit? I have recently replaced impeller, and made sure everything went back into place.(water tube, grommet, etc.) I have a strong stream coming from tell tell, and the head is not really hot to the touch when it has run for atleast 20 minutes. I have been told its normal for water to escape here when it comes down from the head, but its not just a trickle of water. Any ideas"

"Is this when running on muffs? If so then I think the same thing has cropped up before and i think it is due to a grommet missing. If so its #95 in the picture attached and it should be in the hole below where it is shown. (first time I have attached picture good innit)

I'm not sure if it matters though.

If we are not talking about running on muffs then sorry forget I spoke.

yes its when its on muffs. It

yes its when its on muffs. It comes out there when the muffs are running even when motor is not started. there is an opening inside the foot right there were the shift rod goes through. It looks like an exhaust or something.
