"I have a 93' 70Hp Johnson

"I have a 93' 70Hp Johnson O/B. Took off the head and #1 ring is broke and peppered the head pretty bad. Noticed that #2 and #3 had 110 lbs compression cold. Is this right. Also noticed #2 and #3 pistons are stamped .030. #1 looks like factory 1992 date stamp. I am assuming several things, first, this has been rebuilt before, #2and #3 are .30 over, and #1 is OEM. Question, can I get a peppered head repaired or does it need to be replaced, and can I get #1 bored .30 0ver and just replace the piston. Thank you, Mike."

"yes u can...never install a p

"yes u can...never install a peppered head, replace it.detonation/preignition will take it out again.."

"Thank you JWB. Does the 110

"Thank you JWB. Does the 110 psi compression numbers seem reasonable? Also, I am assuming that the 030 stamped on pistons 2 and 3 mean that they were bored 30 over and replaced. Your thoughts?

PS Already found a used clean head and will have it magnafluxed and trued at my machine shop."

How would you MANAFLUX an alum

How would you MANAFLUX an aluminum head???.I think you meant a check for cracks using a DYE PENETRANT. I would not pay them to magnaflux an aluminum head.

Thank you again. I wasn't

Thank you again. I wasn't thinking about the aluminium part of the equation. Will stop by the shop and question them on that. Is there anything else I need to know about putting a used head back on?
