Hello all,
I just signed up and this is my first post. I hope to be able to help others too, I'm a 25+ year vehicle tech so I have some knowledge and experience. I have a 1993 Trophy with a 4.3 TBI A1 Gen 2 power package. I repowered the boat last year. I went out on the water and the boat wouldn't restart after being shut off for a few hours. I realized that I didn't hear the key on 10 second fuel pump run so I figured the fuel pump was toast. I was able to power up the fuel pump with my power probe that I keep on board. I powered the fuel pump while I had someone crank the engine over still no start. That's when I realized the ignition system was offline also. Called sea-tow and got towed back to the ramp. I discovered that the middle 10amp fuse was blown in the three fuse holder on the engine near the relays. I installed a new fuse and key on it blew immediately. Through diagnosis I determined that the ignition sensor was shorted to ground. I obtained a New sensor, coil, cap and rotor and installed. The new ignition sensor had three wire and the old sensor two wires? I double checked the part number and assumed the three wire was redesigned? Any how my short is gone but I still have no spark or fuel pump. To be sure I wasn't an idiot I plugged the old sensor back in, grounded it and key the fuse blew. I'm hoping my ECM isn't fried! Before I send out the ECM for repair or replace. Can someone provide any tests or something I'm overlooking? I have a really nice Autel OBD scan tool but I don't currently have access to a marine scan tool. I don't have the serial number handy But I can update that tomorrow when I get to the shop. I can tell you that it falls in the range that uses the old "can" style coil. I hope that wasn't to long winded! Thank you for your time.
