1993 30HP Evinrude idle issues

I have a 1993 30Hp Evinrude model E30TEETA. It seems to be starving or misfiring I think it is more carb issues more then anything. Fixing that is no problem. But what I have is when the engine is running in the test tank it seems to idle bad and then have a vapor lock for a second and then spit a huge exhaust pocket out of the lower end then stop running.

Sounds like it is running lean.-----Try opening low speed mixture needle.-----And check to see if the throttle is perhaps opening too early.-----I sure disagree with your " vapor lock " diagnosis !

Yes the motor was in storage for about 8yrs. The guy who owned it prior never winterized it. I had to actually open it up and clean it due to salt build up in the cooling system and around the cylinders.
 
Probably should start with a carb removal and cleaning, if it hasn't been done already. What you think, Racer?

The carb has been taken apart and cleaned replaced with carb kit. The fuel does have ethenol unfortunately. The motor was poorly maintained and have already sunk close to 400.00 into it. Replaced the midsection tilt due to the guy backing it into his house and breaking the tilt tube brackets.
 
Did the person that cleaned the carb, physically open up the passages? The jets may LOOK open, but are really closed in to a smaller size with the deposits. I have seen this countless times. Blowing them out with carb cleaner may not have done the job. The solution and strongest spray I have used effectively is CRC Throttle Body Cleaner.
 
Hey Rich, did you do a spark test....and compression test? If you spent the $400 ........I think you probably did, but thought I'd ask anyway.
