Re: 115 hp mercury

With the help of a buddy you could run with the (hood) off and use a timing light to see if/which cylinders are dropping out.

If it is losing spark sporadically then my first guess would be the trigger - most other components either work or don't work - the trigger can develop intermittent (phantom) problems which are difficult to track.

If it's not the spark failing on you it could be the early signs of a fuel pump diaphram on the way out.

But first things first - see if it's an ignition problem...

I had a similar problem with my 80 horse motor it would run fine for awhile and then all of a sudden start to die spit and sputter and then pick up again. My problem was the fuel quick connect/disconnect on the motor, ran the fuel line directly to the fuel pump and the problem went away

Re: 115 hp mercury

Hit the choke when it plays up and see what happens, or push the fuel through by priming the primer bulb. If it takes off its a fuel problem, if it dies its a spark problem
