I have a mercury black max oil injected 150 hp motor on my 1992 checkmate spectra. The motor runs great when its going all out. Most of the time around 60 mph. But when I putt around the lake for a few, i try to take off and the motor boggs really bad. Sometimes to the point where it wont even pull a skier up. It will bogg really bad then when i put in neutral it just shuts off. No alarms or anything. This has been going on for about 2 years now. Ive used high octane gas, changed the plugs, did compression tests, everything seemed up to factory specs. Its a great motor besides this lingering problem. The boat is in mint condition and would love for the motor to cooperate as well. ANy suggestions on what i should look for? Or do to make this go away. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Carb model? - cooties in the carb(s) would be the number one suspect.

Just one season of storage after running unstablized gas or lack of proper storage prep would be the leading cause of a low speed jet clog.

Only cure for carb cooties is remove the carbs, disassemble, clean, replace all gaskets/seals plus any needle valves that are less than perfect - no "cure in a can" at this stage.

If this is an EFI model, I can post up a much more extensive list of possible causes...

Carb motors need to have the linkage adjusted just right.
After cleaning:
There is roller cam that hits the bottom carb first that usually causes that. The vertical shaft of the throttles is set to shut all the barrels at idle. Just loosen and tighten all the screws. The S-Cam has a white line that lines up with the center of the roller when the two first collide. If this is way off than it will bog down. Check all the spark arm ( ign. trigger) linkage for hang ups.

PS:
The brass fuel jets in the carbs may not all be the same size. They belong to a certain cylinder, and any mix up there will cause problems.

Thanks a ton for the quick feedback. I appreciate it. Not sure of the carb model...I did have the carbs stripped and cleaned a year ago and it had no significant impact at all. It still ran the same. The gaskets were replaced as well. Every year it is winterized and i put stabil in. Ive always been pretty good at making sure its done right. You think it might be a low speed jet clog??? Ill have to check that out. Im an idiot for not knowing if it is an EFI model...I should know my own motor like the back of my hand but in the case that it is, would you be able to list me the possible causes please? Ill check and find out for sure if it is. I sincerly appreciate all the help man. After all the troubleshooting and shop visits Ive done, my buddy told me to get on this forum and i would find some helpful information. My first visit on here has been nothing short of amazing thanks to people like you who are willing to help. I appreciate the help
