1992 Mercruiser 4.3 Starting Issue

I have a 1992 Mercruiser 4.3 starting issue. When I turn the key, the starter clicks but nothing happens. When I turn the key enough times, it eventually kicks in and starts. I thought it was the starter so I replaced it last year and it didn't help much. I also replaced the battery this spring and it hasn't helped either. Thoughts/suggestions?

Maybe it's the slave solenoid that's bad? Power goes there before the starter.

Is the slave solenoid attached to the starter (sits on top and has the cables attached to it)? If it is, that came with the new starter I bought last year.

No, it is usually mounted somewhere near the starter, on it's own mounting plate, with wires going to the starter.

I found the solenoid, replaced it and the boat is starting like a champ now, Thanks!
