G'day I'm just curious I brought a 1992 Evinrude 4 horse outboard and the water cooling system appeared intermittent upon inspection, when I quizzed the bloke about it he said to me yeah it's intermittent because it goes through a thermostat and has to wait for thermostat to be opened first, I'm curious but also under the impression outboards generally don't have a thermostat? Correct me if I'm wrong cheers

Need a model # to accurately help you.----Many small and all larger Johnson / Evinrudes motor have a thermostat, but 92 models like yours do not.----Install a new water pump impeller NOW.

That's what is on the i.d plate stamped on the side of it serial number has 92 at the end so would assume it's 92 however I'm not too familiar can send pic if easier to identify?

Like Racer said, model years are frequently wrong. Even boat years are wrong & that was supposedly corrected in 1972 when the CG went to a standardized HIN.

OMC motors need a model # for correct parts look-up. (Mercury needs serial#).

Regardless, the value is the same regardless of '90 or '92.

Serial# doesn’t give the year, that is contained in the model # Use this to decipher…
