1992 6hp mercury 2 stroke ,back fires

Motor starts ok but dies after a few minutes with a number of back fires ???
Is this a Carb or,fuel problem ?????

Could be. Before tearing it apart turn opening the idle mixture screw 1/2 turn OUT and see if that helps.

It's a carb problem. I recommend you rebuild your carb

Depends "where" the backfire is coming from.

Through the carb throat could be toasted reeds.

Around the carb may simply be a carb gasket.

Under the carb is usually a base gasket (and I have replaced dozens of base gaskets on these models).

Or it might simply be a lean sneeze. Seen a whole bunch of motors that run lean idle on "Evil-Nol" gas.

Have cleaned carb ,it now fires 1st go on choke but dies after a min or so,(no more back fire)
if you keep priming it as you push the choke in it goes a bit longer then dies.
Starts 1st go with choke each time. ??????
