"hi, I took to anchors and mad

"hi, I took to anchors and made 1 motor, compression, 1/110,2/85,3/110, changed VRO to standard fuelpump, mixed gas, ran pretty good on stand, starts and idles good,a few quick throttles for about 3 hours, all seemed good enough, mounted on boat, test drive was short,as I throttled up, the motor went into guick pulsing revs. kinda like this,(vrrroom, vrroom, vrroom, vrroom, vrroom, pulled back on throttle and it idled fine, this is in gear or nuetral, all electrical seems ok, timing ok, somewhere between taking motor off stand to mount on boat something happened, and I have no clue, what am I missing, help if you can thank you, Bob"

"Ok, I’m not too sure of the t

"Ok, I’m not too sure of the tolerance of compression between each cylinder but I would suspect #2 at 85psi is too low. The motor would run and idle good on muffs out of the drink however mounted on you boat plus the weight of the rig and resistance of the water is a completely different story. A weak cylinder would dramatically affect the engines ability to perform. If 85 is found to be an acceptable PSI then I would start with fuel delivery. (ie carb cleaning, ect)}"

"thank you for your reply rand

"thank you for your reply randy, within 15% tolerance is exceptable, its alittle lower, but as i stated it didnt do this on a stand, ran pretty good so then mounted it to boat, it did this sitting in neutral, no torque, also carbs have been gone through, fuel system is all new, good gas, I dont understand as it worked go on stand for 3to 4 hours,is there anything like crossing wires for the VRO electrical wires that are not being used being I put on a standard fuel pump, that is the only difference from stand to motor, thanks again, Bob"

"make sure any remaining wires

"make sure any remaining wires are taped, but should not be causing a running problem...it sounds like u r hitting the S.L.O.W. function,(if present,on ur eng, cant rem.).due to overheating,or faulty parts...have u verified hot horn wks? have u inst a new watr pump kit?"

"i would also do a decarb on t

"i would also do a decarb on that engine,..a cpl of times, and run a stout dose of seafoam in gas to try and help that low cyl.if it does not come up after all that,...i would expect to see it cause a problem."

"did u remove,..the vro and pu

"did u remove,..the vro and put on a reg fuel pump,or,are u saying u just disc oiling system and using vro/fuel pump..?...if u removed vro completely, there should be no wires dangling around except,a short piece in harness.tank wires should have been removed as well as oil tank..."

"thanks again for your replys,

"thanks again for your replys, new water pump,it did get hot, shut it down, then took out the out the thermostat, engine was taken apart hone out scoring thats why the difference in compression, center was scored, changed to good pistons and rings, center ring gap is 7mm larger then 1 and 3 hence the difference, the temp sensor was not connected, my bad, at the time it got hot, where is this S.L.O.W function and where is it located im not sure if i have this, what does it look like, ive connected and disconnected the temp sending unit, no different, thank you Bob"

"the S.L.O.W function,... spe

"the S.L.O.W function,... speed limiting operational warning,is a function of the power pack, upon rec signal from temp sender...if u had it disc i would say that is not ur prob,...and i am not 100% u have SLOW,..but,i think u do...it limits eng spd by killing the fire to diff cyl's momentarily,...to around 2500 rpm,..when it does, its a fairly shaky violent kind of running."

"put a new thermo in it!...and

"put a new thermo in it!...and ck that eng temp when it acts up,via a temp gun. ck that hot horn wks by grounding temp sender wire, harness end,w/key on...it should sound,..if not,..u need to look into that.."

"sounds like something i need

"sounds like something i need to investigate i have another powerpac, from other motor its older but looks the same, maybe I'll get lucky,if this doesnt work so much for trying to save a buck, it's headed for the marina, thanks for you assistance, Bob"

"from what i am seeing on part

"from what i am seeing on parts schematic,i would say it does not,..have slow...the slow models/quickstart models had a square ,black power pack."

"ck ur spark,w/a tester and se

"ck ur spark,w/a tester and see if u have one acting up,and look closely at coils for cracks or melted areas where they mount...if any.replace."

"I'll be going through eve

"I'll be going through everything again tomorrow, another guestion,on the arm controlling the throttle, it connects to the timeing advance under the flywheel, there is a screw ( not the timing advance stop)its connected to the part that moves forward and back, question is how far back is it supposed to go, the person who owned this motor used that screw as an idle stop, cause he broke the screws and mount for the throttle stops, ive change the mount and screws, and the high throttle is good but the idle stop is fully turned in and doesnt hit the arm,"

"sounds like u r referring to

"sounds like u r referring to the idle stop screw, not sure what is broken,...i would recommend doing a link and sync.. it is a procedure, that adjusts the linkage and synchronization,of carbs, carbs to ign,and idle pick-up timing...i would also highly recommend a FACTORY service manual, avail on this site i belive....not a clymers or seloc..they are ok,for a VERY general look."

"ive got an older version1985

"ive got an older version1985 and back, things are alittle different in newer models, guess I should get a new one,i've tinkered alot with outboards rebuilt a few, repaired alot but all older models, thought I was done with it, can't afford the new ones so you gotta tinker, It's just knowing when to stop is my problem, trying to save a buck, thanks for your assistance again, Bob"

"well,I took my 60 hp evenrude

"well,I took my 60 hp evenrude to marina, they said my temp sending wire was grounding out,(not somthing you could see) this caused the erratic revs, also the #2 cylinder walls are scored already, and theres a noise in the block, most likely, pistol slap, so next question, which way to go, do I bore out and get .030 over pistons or should I resleeve, whats it cost to resleeve, seems the least expensive, I think, thanks Bob"

"if ur eng has SLOW,i could se

"if ur eng has SLOW,i could see that....i just need to ck my book..grounding of temp sender would,on a S.L.O.W equipped eng, give eratic ign.
thats what i do,bore and go, .020-.030 or resleeve.... ck w/mar-fab.com"

"just thought I'd throw th

"just thought I'd throw this in, I put the boat in the creek, WOW what a difference in power form a 48spl, to a 60hp, jumped out of the hole onto plane in a heartbeat and seems twice as fast, maybe I'll run it for awhile before I rebuilt the right way,(all new stuff and machineshopped)"
