I have one, just purchased and seems to have a miss fire at idle, at least I think. I seems to bounce the cowl every half second or more. This thing will troll for an hour with no trouble. It also seems to take a while for throttle response with the remote at wheel. This will run fine after up on plane. The motor is on a 14 ft classic fisherman. Top speed is around 23 to 24 MPH with me alone. I put new plugs and fresh gas in. the jumping cowl has eased up quit a bit. Of coarse its only in a garbage can in the garage, trying it this week end. It does seem a little better.

I checked the comp. . Please don't tell me I bought a junk !!! It has 90lb at both cylinders. OK, how bad is that????

I general it runs as is, and i will run it So what do you think??

Sounds good. 90 is a bit on the low side, if you tested at full throttle you might have got 100 or more. Trolling for an hour is a good sign for sure but, it may have had the timing advanced a but to compensate for a rich running condition. That's common but I wouldn't worry too much about it for now, just keep it in mind if you one day start to have trouble. Running rich can cause hesitation. If you find that it's short on power you might look for a cause to run rich like a worn needle valve in the carb or worn reed valves in the intake. Just make sure it's not running lean. People buy engines with gummed up carbs all the time and a gummed up carb is an easy fix but, left alone it can ruin the engine. You didn't buy junk.

Thanks for the input, I do have to say that I found an unopened carb kit under the seat today. The part number is (1395-823707--2 )by Mercury Marine. Was it there because he was afraid to tackle it, or is it the wrong part number??? I had just rebuilt the carb on my lawnmower tonight, it started right up. Though It wouldn't run for the past week. Holding the two bags of parts, side by side. Holy cow, there are 10 times the pieces in the Mercury bag. I guess what I am getting at is that when my friends need something fixed the come to me, I haven't let very many down. Are you ready for this, I have been known to be able to fix anything but a Broken Heart, and the crack of your ass!!! The two are impossible !!! Are you smiling ?? That's what I was going for anyways. You know you will use that, right?
In general I am good with some things, if I have a diagram. Is there a parts brake down for my carb, and a part number to see if this is for my motor?
The motor is a 1992 25HP Mariner, Serial #( 0D100797 ), That number comes up with a 1992 YR.

Go to boats.net and you'll find the diagrams. You could check if it's the right part but the part number could have changed if it's an old kit. Have a go at it though. It shouldn't be too awkward if you fix things. Lawn mowers are not much easier than boats anyway. You will not likely use all those parts, there are extras so the same kit can service many similar models and some of the pieces like springs and stuff will not need replacing. I use the gaskets and the needle valve and throw the rest in the bin.

Before you go to all that trouble, open the carb idle screw (CCW) about 1/4 turn and see if that helps.

PS: I had one with 90 psi compression. It ran okay but was down a bit on power. About 120 is normal.
