i need help removing the shifter rod so i can change the water pump i completely removed the lower end but the water pump is still connected thru the shifter rod dont know what else to post need any more info lemme know thanks

Remove the black plastic water intake screen.---Disconnect shift rod coupling.---Now slide the upper nut up the shift rod and remove the wee black tapered plastic piece, it is split.

the rod goes threw the water pump and at the end there a screw that wont come off and that screws into the lower unit witch is already Disconnected and the rod is one solid rod that goes straight to the shifter leaver witch i have no access to ?

Is the driveshaft stuck in the crank or is it ready to come out for re-assembly in the lower unit?-----The lower unit, drive shaft and water pump are assemled before installing the complete lower unit.

Drive shift is out as you can see in the picture...so what you saying is to get the water pump out I have to get the nut that's at the bottom off? I'm assuming by hammering it off or sumthing

xenon012..... You are not reading "racerone's" reply/post #2 properly.

Slide that shift connecting nut upward slightly. See that black tapered plastic retainer... it has a split in it so spread that plastic retainer and remove it so that you can then remove the shift retaining nut.

Now, whether you can remove the water pump or not... slide it down the driveshaft.

Obviously the driveshaft is jammed/frozen within the crankshaft splines, no doubt due to someone NOT greasing the splines. Grab the driveshaft on a non bearing surface of the shaft tightly with vice-grips then try to remove the shaft by hammering it downwards. If it's solidly jammed and can't be removed in this fashion... other members will advise on various methods.

The driveshaft in the picture appears to be stuck in the crankshaft,we can see it is out of the lower unit.---You are getting some top notch advice / guidance but ?????

joereeves you obviously didnt read my post i said the drive shaft is out ..thanks racerone ill giver a shot

I read your post quite carefully my friend (post #9), which stated and I quote "Drive shift is out as you can see in the picture...so what you saying is to get the water pump out I have to get the nut that's at the bottom off? I'm assuming by hammering it off or sumthing."

I also observed the graphic/picture you inserted which shows that the driveshaft is apparently jammed/frozen within the crankshaft splines (post #4).

I'll refrain from forwarding any further non needed advice.
