1992 225hp lower unit's drive shift is stuck

Greetings to all, I removed my lower unit that was mounted on to Evinrude 225hp 1992. The thing is that I pried it with a crowbar and here is where the problem is the drive shift is frozen on to the motor end. So basically the lower unit came off without the drive shift. Any suggestion would be dearly appreciated of how to remove the driveshift from the motor. Thanks in advance.

Re: lower unit's drive shift is stuck

That problem is caused by someone neglecting to install a O Ring in the groove at the top spline area of the driveshaft and/or neglecting to thoroughly grease those splines. Assuming that you have a two piece driveshaft and you pulled it apart, there are a few choices.

If enough of the driveshaft is extended, gripping it with vice grips on a non bearing area, then hammering it back and forth might loosen it.

Some boaters turn the engine upside down and squirt penetrating oil on the shaft, causing the solution to ooze into the splined area.

Last resort.... remove the powerhead which allows proper access to the problem.
