1992 115HP RegulatorRectifier What does it do

"My motor started, running but

"My motor started, running but shut off because it wasn't warmed up yet. So I go to choke and start again...and all it does it turn over. I thought maybe fouled plugs...but nope. So I looked over and I noticed the rectifier had a couple of burned looking spots inside of it. Could this be the reason my motor has decided not to start on me? What the heck does this thing do anyway? If this isn't the reason....any thoughts on any other things to look for? Thanks in advance!"

That's for battery charging. Looks like you need another one! Lots of them for sale on eBay.

"Ive seen the regulator burn, catch fire and melt the wires going to the charge side of the stator. Or is it the stator shorted and took out the regulator. Either way if its bad enough the stator can get fried which means no spark. How bad are the yellow wires coming from the flywheel to the rectifier?"

"The actual wires coming from the flywheel looked ok....but my rectifier has a clear see through top so I can see through it and see the eletric board. There are some welded/solder points that looked burned. The actual wires outside are ok though. Should I be looking at the stator for my issues now? I appreciate the help, please let me know if I can give any other information to help. I know its hard to diagnose over the internet, but thanks."
 
"Go on eBay. Buy a new rectif

"Go on eBay. Buy a new rectifier and bolt her up. Then put a volt meter on the battery and rev the motor. If you see about 14 volts a mid-range rpms, you're all set.

"i am going to look for that on ebay today, I need to find the part number somewhere. My motor isn't starting though....would that keep it from starting, or would that only keep it from charging. I called my local marina and a new stator is 300 and change, so before I buy that I need to narrow my problems down, the problem is I am not exactly sure in which order or how to do things. Thanks guys"
