"I just aquired a boat with a Mercury 90. the low oil alarm (Beep-Beep-Beep)is constantly sounding. The oil tank is near full. I marked the tank oil level with a sharpie & took it out on the water & ran it for 15 minutes & it IS using oil because the oil level went down.
The boat was sitting for a few years in my dad's barn. When I got the boat the oil level was low in the tank, so I filled it before I took it out."

"Sounds typical. The oil sensor was not the greatest design and not uncommon to see them fail.

You have a couple options. 1) simply disconnect the sensor (a couple bullet connectors within a inch or two of the oil resevoir) and just be careful to keep the tank topped up, or 2) replace the sensor.

Since the sensor only tells you when you are low on oil and not if the system is working properly (if the oiler fails, you don't use oil so you never get an alarm), I personally would leave it disconnected..."
