"i have replaced powerpack, stator, wires coils and plugs and engine still looses power once it gets hot. i did check the whole ignition system and found that when it looses fire. or goes erratic that the stator is not putting out hardly any voltagae so i put the old one back on and it does the same exact thing other than instead of getting erratic it looses fire completely. i also found that the area around the stator is getting extremely hot to the point of will burn you if you touch. i dont know but i would not think it is supposed to get this hot. what would be the next step in finding what is causing my problem. motor is 1991 150 johnson model vj150gleis"

"at this point,.....i would guess,...u have 1 or more part that should not be there...or,u have rec a defective part..do u have more than 1 batt,on chg system?"

no i have only one battery. i

no i have only one battery. i also have checked the stator once hot and the meter changes erraticly from anywhere between 120 and 400. the motor runs good until all of a sudden it starts running erratic and revs up to around 2000 rpm. if i switch it off and then back on it will run good for a about 30 secs to a min and runs erratic again. i came to learn that the motor has no thermostats in it and thought maybe it was slow mode but i disconnect the 5 pin connector from the powerpack a and it still does the same. i have no idea of where to check next.

i let the engine cool overnigh

i let the engine cool overnight and ran it today and it ran fine for about 30 to 45 mins as always and then its just all of a sudden it starts surging to 2000 rpm sometimes more. the stator area feels extremely hot. and when i turn the engine off wait a min or so and then crank it back up it runs ok for about 30 secs and then goes back to surging again. it acts like it has an extremely bad miss. but when you put it in gear it dies out. i did a compression check after all of this and it is 100 pounds on all cylinders. does anyone know where and what for me to check next?

did you put new thermostats in

did you put new thermostats in? the water may be just flying through the motor and not getting a chance to cool things down before exiting. they were put in the system for a reason.

i am trying to order them now.

i am trying to order them now. i did find out it is not going into slow mode and it is not overheating but the stator may be getting to hot for some reason or another but yes i agree they should not have been out at all. i have no idea why they took them out

"w/a good water pump,.there is

"w/a good water pump,.there is so much water going thru that eng,WITHOUT thermos or,pres rel valves,.trust me,its running cool....the prob is,u would remain in quickstart much of the time at idle.it rel,NORMALLY at 1100 rpm..thermos are very important, but over cooling,is not your prob due to the lack of."

"Justin this is worth a shot.

"Justin this is worth a shot. I had a similar problem and ended up melting my stator on my evinrude 200hp. When I took off the flywheel I found that 4 of my 6 magnets on the fly wheel had come loose and shifted to different spots on the flywheel. After close examination of my stator wires I found a spot where the insulation had worn through. Check your magnets to make sure there not loose, they all should have even spacing between them."

thanks for the ideas. my flywh

thanks for the ideas. my flywheel is kinda weird compared to most it has magnets but it as if they are made into it and it has 5 bolts holding it down not one main one. and instead of a keyway it has a rollpin. at this point i am willing to do anything

"running w/out therm is never

"running w/out therm is never a good idea,...the reg/rect can and does overheat from those situations."
