Hi all,
Thanks to you all who answered my first post. Thought I would reach out again for this issue.

Looking to see if someone can send me pics of your cowling to see what's suppose to keep the top closed.
New to me motor so don't know what's missing.
The plastic piece in the lower cowl is broken for sure but don't know what else is astray

There is a cheesy little plastic piece that often breaks....I have repaired them. Might need a new one here or try Tim's Outboard in Hackensack MN talk to Mike, Dan, or Teresa. 218 682 2331. Part sent same day if you call early enough.
 
Agreed they have a " Mickey Mouse " latch.----Plastic junk.-----They used it on the 9.9 / 15 for a few years too.-----On the 9.9 / 15 HP they went back to a real latch again.
